Worst GOP Robocall smear yet - Obama will endanger American Lives.

____________________________________________________________

ACTUAL ROBOCALL

“This is Orson Swindle. I’m calling on behalf of John McCain and the Republican National Committee. John McCain and I were POWs together. I know John’s character, integrity, courage and leadership. He supports our troops and veterans. Over 300 retired generals and admirals, 300 retired staff NCOs [non-commissioned officers], and hundreds of former POWs support John McCain. Twenty-one past VFW and American Legion national commanders support him . They trust his leadership.

Democrats attempt to cut off crucial troop funding, accuse our troops of war crimes, and Senator Biden predicts Senator Obama will be tested. A weak President will, indeed, be tested. Obama and Democrats’ politics endanger American lives. They are not qualified to lead our military and our country.

When you vote, vote for the team that puts leadership, character and country first. John McCain.”

Another voice adds, “This call is paid for by the Republican National Committee at 866-558-5591 and authorized by McCain-Palin 2008.”

UPDATE: I called the number listed for the RNC 1-866-558-5591. I got a recorded message saying that I can either press "1" to add my number to the "Do Not Call List" or wait (till the beep) to leave a voice message.

Barack Obama Rallies 100,000 in Denver, CO

Well, we know what the Bush-McCain philosophy looks like. It’s a philosophy that says we should give more and more to folks at the top and hope that it trickles down. It’s a philosophy that gives tax breaks to wealthy CEOs and to corporations that ship jobs overseas while hundreds of thousands of jobs are disappearing here at home. It’s a philosophy that justifies spending $10 billion a month in Iraq while the Iraqi government sits on a huge surplus and our economy is in crisis.

For eight years, we’ve seen the Bush-McCain philosophy put our country on the wrong track, and we cannot have another four years that look just like the last eight. It’s time for change in Washington, and that’s why I’m running for President of the United States.

We know that the economic crisis that hit Wall Street has been hurting middle class families on Main Street for years. But during the primaries, Senator McCain was saying that we’ve made “great progress economically” under George Bush, and just last month he was still arguing that the “fundamentals of our economy are strong.” That’s not change.

We know that we have to get spending under control in Washington so that we’re not mortgaging our children’s future under a mountain of debt. But for all of Senator McCain’s tough talk on spending, he voted for four out of the five Bush budgets that let things get totally out of control. That’s not change.

We know that it’s time for new ideas and new leadership in the White House. But Senator McCain voted with President Bush 90 percent of the time over the last eight years. Just the other day, George Bush returned the favor and voted early for John McCain. Well, Colorado, George Bush isn’t the only one who gets to vote early – you can vote early too. And you can finally put an end to the Bush-McCain philosophy. You can vote for a new direction for our country. You can vote for change.

We know what’s coming from the McCain campaign over the next nine days, because it’s the same kind of politics that we’ve seen over the last eight years. It’s a politics that is more about tearing your opponent down than lifting this country up. Well I can take nine more days of John McCain’s attacks, but the American people can’t take four more years of the same failed policies and the same failed politics. We’re not going to let George Bush pass the torch to John McCain. It’s time for change. And that’s why I’m running for President of the United States.

THE WHO

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We dont get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, thats all
And the world looks just the same
And history aint changed
cause the banners, they are flown in the next war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We dont get fooled again
No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
Though I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?

There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Are now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We dont get fooled again
Dont get fooled again
No, no!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

Specialist Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan and three other soldiers, including a corporal from Washington Heights, were killed in Baquba after a bomb detonated while they were checking abandoned houses for explosives. They served in the Stryker Brigade combat team of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division, based in Ft. Lewis, Washington.

“His Muslim faith did not make him not want to go. It never stopped him,” his father, Feroze Khan, told the Gannett News Service in a story printed shortly after his death. “He looked at it that he’s American and he has a job to do.”

Bob Dylan: The Hour The Ship Comes In

Bob Dylan on August 28, 1963 as part of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. At the same event, Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

The Hour The Ship Comes In

Oh the time will come up
When the winds will stop
And the breeze will cease to be breathin’.
Like the stillness in the wind
Before the hurricane begins,
The hour that the ship comes in.

Then the sea will split
And the ships will hit
And the sands on the shoreline will be shaking.
Then the tide will sound
And the waves will pound
And the morning will be breaking.

The fishes will laugh
As they swim out of the path
And the seagulls they’ll be a-smilin’.
And the rocks on the sand
Will proudly stand,
The hour that the ship comes in.

And the words that are used
For to get the ship confused
Will not be understood as they’re spoken.
For the chains of the sea
Will have busted in the night
And be buried on the bottom of the ocean.

A song will lift
As the mainsail shifts
And the boat drifts on to the shoreline.
And the sun will respect
Every face on the deck,
The hour that the ship comes in.

Then the sands will roll
Out a carpet of gold
For your weary toes to be a-touchin’.
And the ship’s wise men
Will remind you once again
That the whole wide world is watchin’.

Oh the foes will rise
With the sleep still in their eyes
And they’ll jerk from their beds and think they’re dreamin’.
But they’ll pinch themselves and squeal
And they’ll know that it’s for real,
The hour that the ship comes in.

And they’ll raise their hands,
Sayin’ we’ll meet all your demands,
But we’ll shout from the bow your days are numbered.
And like Pharaoh’s tribe,
They’ll be drownded in the tide,
And like Goliath, they’ll be conquered.

McCain camapign workers distributing pamphlets saying Obama is an Arab

Gayle Quinnel, a John McCain supporter says at a McCain Rally that "Obama is an Arab". She is quickly corrected by John McCain who takes away her microphone.

This is an interview with her done by a live streaming cell phone. Interviewers include Noah Kunin, Senior Political Correspondent from The UpTake, Adam Aigner of NBC News and Dana Bash of CNN.

Copied from THE UPTAKE

Quinnel says she obtained the information on Obama being an Arab at "her local library" and from a pamphlet obtained at a local McCain campaign office (provided by a fellow volunteer not the campaign itself). She has taken it upon herself to redistribute the information as widely as possible by making copies of the pamphlet and sending it to random names in the phone book.

TRANSCRIPT OF INTERVIEW
(It is a little hard to hear in parts)

Gayle Quinnell: I went to the library in Shakopee and I got lots of … three pages of information about Obama

Adam Aigner of NBC News: And what kind of information did you get?

Quinnell :I got to tell you , you call me. It’s a long story.

I’m afraid of what’s going to happen to this country.

Aigner: What would you think would happen? Do you think it would become Muslim country and what would that mean?

Quinnell :It would be bad

Aigner: So even though Senator McCain told you that he didn’t feel that was true and you ought to be more respectful, you still fear that?

Quinnell I still do. Yeah. I’m not alone. I go to Burnsville, the main Republican headquarters and I do a lot of work over there. A lot of sending out mail and talking to people. And all the people agree with what I’m saying to you about Obama.

Aigner :Then do you feel there are a lot of volunteers for McCain who feel that way?

Quinnell Yes. A lot of them. In fact I got a letter from another woman that goes over there to Burnsville and she sent me more things about Obama.

Aigner:What was on the letter?

Quinnell Oh all kinds of bad things about him and how, I mean I have to tell you to call me. It’s all bad.

Reporter: Are a lot of people getting this letter and are a lot of people believeing it and is that turning a lot of votes or support for McCain?

Quinnell Yeah I sent out 400 letters. I went to Kinkos and I got them all printed out. And I sent about 400 letters. I went in the telephone book and sent them out to people. So they can decide if they would want Obama.

Aigner :Can you give me your name again?

Quinnell Gayle Quinnell and I honestly think that these people hear about this Obama, they wouldn’t want him.

Aigner: Because they would know what you know in the letter?

Quinnell Yeah, he read that letter. In fact when I was standing in line , there were about eight girls, young girls standing in line. And they said “what have you got”. I had one of the letters and they said “Give it to me. I want to read it. I want to read it” And they read it. And they just went (shakes head) . They hadn’t read it before and they didn’t (unintelligible) all that information. To me it’s bad news.

Aigner : So maybe if I call you you’ll give me one of the letters maybe?

Quinnell I sure can!

Aigner: You don’t have another one on you now?

Quinnell No I don’t. But I can give you what I got and I can give you what she sent me in the mail.

Aigner: I’d be interested to read it.

Quinnell OK

Aigner:: and can you spell your name for me?

Quinnell Q-U-I-N-N-E-L-L

Aigner: E-L-L? And Gayle is just…

Quinnell G-A-Y-L-E

Aigner: And where you from?

Quinnell I’m from Shakopee.

Aigner: Shakopee?

Quinnell Shakopee, Minnesota

Aigner: And and I’m sorry how old are you ma’am?

Quinnell I’m 75

Aigner : 75?

Quinnell (Nods yes) And I got a lot of grandkids and a lot of kids, I’ve got five kids. I got seven grandkids and they all think the same way.

(PHONE NUMBER EDITED OUT OF CONVERSATION)

Noah Kunin( The UpTake): Do you volunteer at the Republican Party Headquarters or the McCain Campaign office over in Burnsville?

Quinnell McCain. McCain Headquarters in Burnsville.

Noah: The McCain headquarters.

Quinnell It’s out over by , over by that post station there.

Noah: Yeah, I know which one you’re talking about. And just to be sure to make sure we got your quote OK, you called Obama and Arab terrorist?

Quinnell ardon?

Noah: You called him an Arab terrorist? Is that correct? Why do you think he is an Arab?

Quinnell Because his dad is. If you… I’ll send you the paper.

Female reporter: His dad is Muslim His dad was Muslim. Barack Obama has never been a Muslim.

Quinnell No but he’s….

Dana Bash of CNN :he’s a Christian.

Quinnell He’s not an Arab either, he’s a

Bush: His father was Muslim, and he’s a Christian.

Quinnell Yeah , but he’s still got Muslim in him. So that’s still part of him. I got all the stuff from the library and I could send you all kinds of stuff on him. In fact….

Bush: What did you think about McCain said. He said he’s a decent person.

Quinnell Well he did have didn’t have (unintelligible) I think McCain wanted to (unintelligible) I don’t think he wanted to say anything against him. You know he didn’t want to cut him down. That was my way of thinking. I don’t think he wanted to cut him down. So he just kind of brushed me off.

Reporter: Plus he criticizes Barack Obama plenty himself, so why wouldn’t he do it now?

Quinnell Well I probably brought up something that he didn’t want to talk about.

Reporter: Do you think John McCain thinks that he’s Arab? Do you think he knows this stuff that you’re saying you know is fact?

Quinnell I don’t know. I don’t know. Maybe he doesn’t want to bring it up then. I don’t know why. Is there some way I can get to you more information.

Bush: Can you wait for me for like five more minutes?

Quinnell Yeah.

Bush:: I want to an interview on camera. Our camera team is occupied right now. What’s your name?

Quinnell Gayle Quinnell (Spells name again)

Bush: In case I lose you, you don’t have a cell phone do you?

Quinnell No I wish I had it on me but I don’t.

Bush: See the pretty lady over there with red hair? That’s our camera. As soon as she’s done , we’ll be over there Ok

Reporter: What was your reaction when Senator McCain backed away

Quinnell What was my reaction? Well when he didn’t want to talk about it

Our Time is Now -- Help on the Last 4 Days
Paulson probably will scrap the 700 billion dollar bailout to incorporate this plan being discussed at the IMF, G8 meeting this weekend.

Rescuing our jobs and savings: What G7/8 leaders can do to solve the global credit crisis.
Barry Eichengreen and Richard Baldwin
October 9, 2008

Without rapid and coordinated action by G7/8 leaders, this financial crisis could turn into a jobs crisis, a pension crisis and much more. This column introduces a collection of essays by leading economists on what the G7/8 leaders should do this weekend. The dozen essays present a remarkable consensus on a few points: we need immediate, coordinated global action that includes recapitalisation of the banks.

We are in the throes of what is almost certainly the most serious economic and financial crisis of our lifetimes. The crisis is no longer a US crisis, or even a US and European crisis; it is a global crisis. It has spread from the financial sector to the real economy. It is not just investment portfolios and retirement accounts at risk, continued turmoil will soon start to destroy jobs.

There is a need for urgent action. The policy response needs to be decisive. It needs to be global.

With this sense of urgency in mind, we have assembled a group of leading economists to offer priorities for crisis response. This is not a homogenous collection of experts. The contributors are from different continents and different schools of thought.

The G7/8 finance ministers meeting: An opportunity
Global economic and financial leaders are convening this weekend in Washington DC for the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank. G7/8 finance ministers will meet Friday on the sidelines of the Fund/Bank meetings to craft their response. The global financial community will assemble the next day at IMF headquarters. This is a golden opportunity for agreeing a coordinated plan.

The authors of the thirteen essays do not agree on every point (there was little or no coordination among them as this initiative was launched on mid-morning of 8 October). Nevertheless, there is a remarkable degree of consensus on what must be done.

Policy makers must move boldly to stabilise the financial system. The basic elements are:

A quick bank recapitalisation with global coordination
A guarantee of deposits and/or loans with global coordination
Further, coordinated macroeconomic stimulus.
All the authors agreed on the first, many on the second and a good number on the third.

Download the essays
Here is the link to the short booklet entitled “Rescuing our jobs and savings: What G7/8 leaders can do to solve the global credit crisis.” It is only 38 pages long.

The authors are: Alberto Alesina, Michael Burda, Charles Calomiris, Roger Craine, Stijn Claessens, J Bradford DeLong, Douglas Diamond, Barry Eichengreen, Daniel Gros, Luigi Guiso, Anil K Kashyap, Marco Pagano, Avinash Persaud, Richard Portes, Raghuram G Rajan, Guido Tabellini, Angel Ubide, Charles Wyplosz and Klaus Zimmermann.

Update 1. From Obama, through his campaign:

"There are many causes of this economic crisis, and it's critical that we respond using all the tools that we currently have. That's why I support Secretary Paulson's latest initiative to use the authority we gave him in the financial rescue plan to provide more capital to our financial institutions so that they have money to lend to families and businesses. He should implement this plan quickly, aggressively, and ensure that it protects taxpayers, does not reward CEOs, and is limited in duration. As financial conditions evolve, the government should be prepared to take all additional action necessary to maintain market confidence, including extending broader guarantees in the financial system. And the United States must step up its efforts to work with the G-7 and our other allies to ensure a globally coordinated solution.

"This is not a time for ideology, but a time for common sense and pragmatism. The test of any idea must not be whether it is liberal or conservative, but whether it works for the American people. That's what we should all be focused on in the days ahead to restore strength and prosperity to our economy," said Senator Barack Obama.

Branchflower's findings:
Palin Troopergate Affair
Posted by Alaska_Politics

From Kyle Hopkins in Anchorage, Anchorage Daily News --

Here's the investigator's findings:

Finding Number One

For the reasons explained in Section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.11(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Alaska Statute 39.52.11(a) provides:

"The Legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust."

FINDING NUMBER TWO:

I find that, although Walt Monegan's refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Gov. Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as a commissioner of public safety. In spite of that, Governor Palin's firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch departmen heads.

FINDING NUMBER THREE:

Harbor Adjustment Service of Anchorage, and its owner Ms. Murleen Wilkes, handled Trooper Michael Wooten's workers' compensation claim properly and in the normal course of business like any other claim processed by Harbor Adjustment Service and Ms. Wilkes further, Trooper Wooten received all workers' compensation benefits to which he was entitled.

FINDING NUMBER FOUR

The Attorney General's office has failed to substantially comply with my August 6, 2008 written request to Governor Sarah Palin for information about the case in the form of emails.
Olbermann - How to put Hannity and other FOX anchors in their place?

McCain wants to make nice to Dave Letterman, even bring Sarah Palin along, but Dave told his audience last night that he won't be fooled again.

Dave's rant begins at 3:41 minutes of the video.

Now here’s this thing with John McCain…you know a couple of weeks ago, John McCain was supposed to be on the show. And at the last minute he calls me up –- and I’ve got a lot of respect…you get a call from a senator –- you get a call from a guy who is a bona fide war hero –- all of a sudden, you know, your lips start to vibrate. So I said “Sure, whatever you want.” And he says, “Look, Dave, the economy is about to crater.” It’s about to “crater,” his word. “And I have to rush back to Washington to save the economy.” And so it made me feel puny. So I said, “OK, Senator, do what you have to do. Rush right back to Washington.” And then I hung up and I felt like a patriot. I felt like I had done my part. And he was supposed to be on the show like an hour later. So now, we’re in a hole but everybody has to pull together in economic hardship times. So we all pull together and we get that guy with the big head from MSNBC. What’s his name? Keith Olbermann, yeah. Giant head. So he comes over. He’s good. He’s very good. So now it turns out, not only did he not rush back to Washington, he spent the night here in New York City. He went on Katie Couric…he was on Conan…he was on Regis…he was everywhere. So now, in an attempt to save his campaign, they’re talking about coming back. You see what I’m saying? So we said, “Sure, we would love you to come back.” And even on the phone, he said, “I’ll bring….Sarah.” But they’re being squirrely. Politicians can be squirrely. Because we have a date picked. We do this show every afternoon at 5:30. He wants to do the show at 5. So one –- we have no guarantee he’s going to show up, period. And we’ve kind of already rearranged our schedule on his behalf to save the economy, right? By getting that big-headed kid in here to talk about the politics. You know what I’m driving at? I just don’t know if we can trust him. And by the way, I don’t need to remind you that the road to the White House runs right through here."
Cindy McCain interview in Marie Claire Magazine & John McCain's Possible PTSD Attack!
(Full Interview with Cindy McCain at http://tinyurl.com/3pf4rr)

With John McCain's erratic actions the last few weeks on the campaign trail - and with him at one point referring to the audience at one of his town hall meetings as "My Fellow Prisoners" I have wondered if maybe he may be suffering from PTSD.

In an interview with Marie Claire Magazine, Cindy McCain clearly states that unlike young enlisted men, John, being an officer, has the training, and is not susceptible to emotional illness.

MC: You met your husband after his POW days. To what extent is that still with you — or is it a part of history?
CM: My husband will be the first one to tell you that that’s in the past. Certainly it’s a part of who he is, but he doesn’t dwell on it. It’s not part of a daily experience that we experience or anything like that. But it has shaped him. It has made him the leader that he is.

MC: But no cold sweats in the middle of the night?
CM: Oh, no, no, no, no, no. My husband, he’d be the first one to tell you that he was trained to do what he was doing. The guys who had the trouble were the 18-year-olds who were drafted. He was trained, he went to the Naval Academy, he was a trained United States naval officer, and so he knew what he was doing.

Basically Cindy McCain does not realize the plight of many veterans, of all ages, rank, and intellegence, who witness terrible acts, and are unable to let them go without the care of expert practicioners. This is one more area, where the McCains' let veterans down, and are not the best choice for the presidency.
